Cornell was founded in 1865, and is unique among other Ivy League schools. Cornell was the first university to teach American History, to teach Far Eastern languages, establish a university press, and allow students to check out books from the library. Cornell's campus is filled with natural beauty and is located in Ithaca, NY. Cornell's colors are cornelian and white. Their mascot is a bear, and Cornell's motto is "I would found an institution where any person can find instruction in any study." This motto was created by Cornell's founder, Ezra Cornell.
Cornell is known for its "need-blind" policy. This means Cornell does not choose students based on their families income but on their academic ability and extracurricular activities provided on their application alone. However, it seemed as if Cornell was straying from this policy this year. The university announced that it would accept 100 more applicants for the class of 2013 than it has in previous years due to the "financial crisis." Cornell did say that even though they were accepting more applicants they kept with their need blind policy for the 1,249 students they accepted.
Cornell has over 4,000 course options in undergraduate, graduate, and professional studies together. Cornell was the first to create colleges in hotel administration and veterinary medicine. The university has an exceptional law school, one of the five in the Ivy League.
Cornell has an impressive alumni base including William P. Rogers who was the Secretary of State from 1969-1973, Jamshid Amuzegar who was the Prime Minister of Iran from 1977-78, and Robert Fogel who won the Nobel Peace Prize in economics.
Life offers us each, unique advantages. My first words, were; 'check-mate'.
